Candidates: How to build YOUR Personal Brand



Finding the right career fit is all about knowing yourself, your vision and your goals, before you begin your job search. This combination of passions, ambitions and values is a distinctive representation of you as a person — your brand — and it’s a powerful tool, easily engaged to land the right job. How do you build your brand? Start by asking yourself:

What are five words you would use to describe your personal brand?

What are the three key strengths of your personal brand?


What are the three key weaknesses of your personal brand?




Harvard Business Review suggests that your personal brand needs to be: compelling to your audience, authentic, consistent and well-known. What does that mean in practical terms? Among the Review’s advice: build your profile internally and externally through networking, high-profile projects, presentations, panel discussions, workshops or writing for special publications. 

Once you’ve answered those questions, find a way to put it all together in two or three natural sentences that you can mention to your friends, colleagues or potential employers. Solicit feedback when appropriate, revise and deliver this unique brand story of what you have to offer with confidence. If you can’t sell your brand, nobody will buy it.
